I am a have merchant acct with AMEX. I had a signed contract with a customer and the service was performed in full. The customer's husband verbally attacked and used profanity against me and a subcontractor that I used. The customer decided to fraudulently dispute the transaction with AMEX, and despite the fact that we sent proof of a signed contract, statements attesting to what occurred, and proof that the services were fulfilled, AMEX ripped me off and charged back $1,950 from me. They refused to provide me an explanation nor would they cooperate with the credit card processor I used. Both companies blamed each other and screwed me. Why in the world should I continue to accept their credit card, when they do not honor confirmed and legitimate work.

Hi, I applied for a card last year that was never activated, and when I called customer service this year they said ‘don’t worry, if you order a new one, you will still get the benefits’. I never got the benefits and when I called customer support again, they said ‘She was referring to the ‘12000 voucher’ benefit, not the 5000 avios points. That was not even part of the conversation, she completely made it up. They cannot go through with their word and then mixed up your words to their own benefit. Thank you for knowing how to welcome and keep a client!

American Express has really gotten bad…
American Express has really gotten bad I'm recent times. Have a gold card for 6 months. Have used it and paid it online and in full each month, never late. Tried to use it at a hotel when on vacation when it got declined. They are doing a financial review. So my card is useless while out of town. Had to use my Mastercard to get the hotel room.. the financial review people were rude also.Had to fill out a t4506 tax form to give them access to my tax returns. All this with an 800 credit score. I'm fine with the financial review but so they have to decline charges during the process? A $300 hotel bill? If I have to use a backup I might as well ditch amex and just use the backup.
I passed the financial review but I can't depend on amex so it's going into the trash and getting cancelled asap
Undefined Criteria for Application…
Undefined Criteria for Application Denial, despite a credit score of over 800. I had applied over a year ago and was denied, so I waited a year and just reapplied for a specific card, and was again rejected. I then called a number that promised a "review" of why the application was denied. And was told that it was denied because of too many recently opened accounts. Okay, despite the fact I haven't opened a new credit account in over a year? AmEx is certainly free to do business the way it sees fit, but its nebulous, undefined policies do not help anyone, least of all American Express. If I knew how, specifically, American Express defines "too many new accounts," then I could do something to amend that state of affairs, so that my future applications might meet with more success. But apparently AmEx is not interested in a relationship that other credit card companies have found very desirable.

Stay away from this company.got 2 accounts with Amex . went on holidays going to pay for my meal in restaurants my both card got declined feel so Embarrassed. then try to call Amex as they say 24 hr service it’s big lie.just cancelled my all cards now.never again with Amex anymore in my whole life.going to stop accepting Amex in my business.

i just wanna say that american express costumer service is the best i have ever experienced. they are over the top.
Don’t use Amex.Poor service - the worst in the market. Time to give other cards a bigger market share.
I have been an Amex card user for over 15 years when Amex did not have the presence it currently has. They have a wider share of the market currently and we put them there. Their service has become shoddy and their claim to fame where they claim they will refund items not to standard or in recent times, the flight ticket scandal when flights were cancelled by airlines and the government. In my experience they refused to deal with the supplier despite having all the documents provided and requested by the ticket provider.
It is time to take our power back again and not use them. Use other cards . They never return calls, they terminate calls and blame it on the fact that they are working from home, in fact they provide the shoddiest service. Use people power and remove their presence!

Garbage company
I had 2 Amex cards and had no problems making on time payments with them. Unfortunately life happened and those intrest charges made up a significant bulk of the monthly payment. Like spending $5 in fees to get a $6 pizza delivered from Little Ceasars ratio of ridiculous.
The biggest offense of all came after Covid started where out of nowhere they dropped my limit significantly. Keep in mind payments were being made monthly and being late was rare -- if then it was only a day or so related to when I got paid. After that happened, my low utilization rate was suddenly high and with it came a big drop in credit score.
Lost my job early 2021 and the mess with them only became compounded. Now, they have the audacity to offer me a garbage "deal" to establish credit with them. Your club isn't prestigious enough to fork over a $49 annual fee for a card with no perks, higher interest and an embarassingly low credit limit. I have a new job where I make more and I'm not giving these crooks a single cent. Lowering my credit limit to force high utilization during Covid? F you guys from the bottom of my heart. I'd rather wait the 7 years for Amex to drop off my credit report than to deal with this shady company ever again.

Incompetent service
I have gone through 3 months of service calls and emails to get Amex cards to work for my company.
I have not been able to accept a single American Express Card upon signing up for this.
I have never experienced such unhelpful service from a bank to this degree. I can not continue to waste my time on this.
The point of this was to enable more customer purchases - but it is quite that goal will not be achieved. It is clear that no one knows what they are doing.
This has been a wait of my time.
Stay away
Stay away. Business banking double charged me, taking weeks to get a refund. Customer support is laughable. Just no.

bad service and hard to understand the…
bad service and hard to understand the accent of the agent! I've been with them for many years! never missed payments! and they keep evaluating my account and asking for so many documents! so I told them to close it! they don't care if you have been with them for a long time they will treat you like nothing!! only cashback is good but it's terrible service!! one day they will freeze your account without telling you anything and cut your balance too without letting you know so full of bad surprises!!! that's my experience with amex! never going back there!!!!

Pathetic customer service
Applied for a credit card. Submitted all required documents & got a credit card. Activated on 12.6.22, started using it & paid the payment. So far so good.
10.7.22. All of a sudden, my card stops working at big merchant outlets like Tesco, Asda, Aldi, etc.
12.7.22, I chat with customer care through AMEX app & am told there's a safe feature owing to which once the merchant approves the transaction then only the payment can be processed. I asked that do you want me to go & inform every merchant to activate this feature so that they can oblige me for using your card? The response strangely is yes.
13.7.22. I call up their customer care & ask them why my card is being declined. They say, they have sent me an email to update my contact details owing to which the account is on hold. I told them, I have not received any email. I asked them because of all these declined transactions if my credit rating is affected, who is responsible. They inform me that I will be transferred to the relevant department who will answer this question & after a few minutes of waiting they inform me my account has been closed.
WOW. No customer, no problem. Solve problems the American Express credit card way.
Lack of understanding the situation, responding with the right answer, empathy all missing. I just opened the account a month back & within a month I am asked to update my contact details, there's no email requesting me to update contact information. Upon clarification, the account is closed.
